In 2016, Athabasca Cabin paddled the Little Churchill River into Hudson Bay. Venturing further and further north, they eventually entered the Arctic tundra –  the characteristic biome of the far north. They shot rapids, caught fish, saw caribou and bears, traveled by car, floatplane, canoe and train, paddled with whales, and swam in the saltwater. They were the last Chippewa men to paddle in the waters of the Arctic Ocean… until this year. Summer 2019, the Year of the Portage, Chippewa men will again be paddling the Churchill River, with the goal of reaching the saltwater of Hudson Bay.
