Cass Court Breaks Ground                               [return to News]

Next summer, campers will find a new tennis court, new net, new backstops.  In October 2002 the old Cass Court was torn out of the ground and a new court was laid.  The old cracks and "duck ponds" are gone!

These photos show the new smooth surface as of mid-October.  Next spring the court will get its final green court surface, white lines, net, and backstop.

The historic ground breaking removed the court first laid by Cap Endres in 1937.  The original court was made of cement, poured by hand.  After cracks developed in the cement, an asphalt surface was added in the mid-1960s, but the cracks came through the black top, too.  Anyone who has played on the Cass Court knows the meaning of "home court advantage."

Plans are being made to re-build the two Bear Paw courts in the near future....
